Need an option to improve your tooth imperfections? Consider porcelain veneers
Veneers are wafer-thin shells that are custom-made from materials that are tooth-coloured. They are designed to conceal the surface of teeth that have become discoloured, misshapen or damaged.
They are bonded to the teeth’s surfaces as a way of improving their appearance. Porcelain veneers have a high resistance to staining.
Porcelain Veneers can be a good option for the following:
- discoloured teeth;
- worn teeth;
- broken and chipped teeth;
- short teeth;
- teeth that are uneven or have become misaligned;
- teeth with gaps by closing the space.
How to get a porcelain veneer
It usually requires about three visits to install porcelain veneers to conceal the unsightly aspects of your teeth. The first visit is the consultation where your treatment plan is organized. The next two visits are the measuring and fixing of the veneers.
One of our dentists at Quarry Park Dental will remove a small amount of enamel from the surface of the tooth. This is normally equivalent to the thickness of the porcelain veneer.
Before the trimming takes place of the enamel, we will discuss methods used for pain relief. We offer nitrous oxide, which has no side effects.
Once the tooth has been prepared, an impression or model of the recipient tooth is made. We send the model to our dental laboratory to have the porcelain veneer made. This part of the process can take up to 3 weeks.
Fixing the porcelain veneer
Before permanently fixing the porcelain veneer to your tooth, we will check to see if it fits the colour and shape of the tooth. In order that the porcelain veneer adheres well your tooth will be cleansed and etched so that the roughened surface allows for strong bonding.
Specialized cement is spread on the veneer followed by pressing it firmly onto your tooth.
As soon as it is correctly positioned, a specialized light beam is applied to the porcelain veneer, which aids in the activation of chemicals in the cement so that it hardens quickly.
