There are unexpected situations that could arise when you may need to pay a visit to your dentist as soon as possible to either save a tooth or eliminate pain or both.
A dental emergency usually means you are experiencing pain which is often sharp and continuous.
This sort of pain is often most felt when the tooth comes into contact with hot or cold food or drink, but there are other types of dental emergencies too, including:
- sports injuries
- severe toothaches
- knocked out tooth
- broken or chipped teeth
- jaw injury
- falls causing facial injury
Many emergencies can be resolved by a dental visit at the earliest opportunity. If you have experienced any of the above, give us a call right away and we will help you through the emergency.

When an emergency is a little more serious
Some emergencies are more critical than others. On occasions, you might bite down too hard and damage your lip or tongue. If bleeding occurs but doesn’t appear to stop you should go either to an emergency room or visit our office immediately.
You might have had an accident in which one or more of your teeth are damaged or even knocked out. An injury to the jaw could be a fracture and will require attention immediately here at Quarry Park Dental, or at an emergency room.
Tips to handle an emergency
You may need to seek emergency treatment:
- When you have knocked a tooth out completely you should grab the tooth by its crown and rinse out the root in water. Place it carefully back into its socket or put it into a cup of milk and visit us as fast as possible.
- If you have a broken tooth you should get a cup of warm water and rinse it out to ensure the area is kept clean and visit Quarry Park Dental soon as possible.
- If one of the wires on your braces has broken and is damaging the tissues in your mouth protect the end of the wire with a piece of gauze and seek assistance from one of our dentists as soon as possible before the wire does any further damage.
Whatever injury you encounter having the problem treated and fixed as soon as possible by one of our dentists can help you return to normal and bring a smile back onto your face.
